One In An ARMY are proud to bring you the results of our March 2020 campaign, Change With Yoongi, in collaboration with BTSxMidAtl benefiting Key Changes in honour of Yoongi's birthday!
Key Changes provide music engagement and recovery services in hospitals and the community for young people and adults affected by mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, bi polar disorder and schizophrenia.
Their award-winning programme promotes well-being and recovery through developing creative, technical and vocational skills and opens pathways to mainstream opportunities in education, training, work experience and employment. Their innovative approach draws on clinical therapeutic techniques and professional music industry practice.
During the month of March, 261 ARMY from 32+ countries raised £4,042.49 in honour of Yoongi's birthday! These funds will go towards a special 12-week rehabilitation programme of music studio recording sessions, one-to-one mentoring and music concerts for 20 young people leaving hospital. This will help them rebuild their confidence as they reintegrate back into community life!
We also received an email from JustGiving informing us that ARMY donated so enthusiastically, that out of 58,306 campaigns, our campaign was in the top 1% of fundraisers for March 2020!
As always, our friends at Key Changes drafted a letter to Yoongi and Big Hit Entertainment letting them know about the difference you made in March. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a physical letter could not be mailed immediately after the campaign, so it was shared on Weverse instead (search using the tag ChangeWithYoongi to find it). Please feel free to save a copy of the letter if you donated, retweeted, or shared the campaign in any way - everyone who contributed to the campaign can share the praise in the letter!
Mental health support was the cause chosen by ARMY via poll for Yoongi's birthday. Key Changes works with artists from all backgrounds, including members of marginalized communities. Over the course of the 2019/2020 Bangtan birthday season, ARMY chose to support organizations that focused on: physical health, the environment, shelter & orphanages, animal welfare & services, art & culture, music/dance, and mental health!
As always, we also ran a non-monetary bonus mission: Spoonful of Suga. Divided into 3 categories, Spoonful of Suga focused on improving mental health by focusing on body care, mindset, and social habits.
We recognize that February and March were an extremely tough for millions of people as COVID-19 rates began to climb in multiple countries. The fact that so many ARMY took steps to protect their mental health is very inspiring.
Yoongi's birthday marks the end of the 2019/2020 Bangtan birthday season, which means we also ran our last We Purple Earth 48-hour flash fundraiser benefiting One Tree Planted.
As voted by ARMY, the trees funded during Yoongi's flash campaign will be planted by One Tree Planted in Ghana.
Starting with Jungkook's birthday in September 2019 and culminating with Yoongi's birthday in March 2020, the BTS ARMY team raised enough to plant 33,000 trees! You can read more about where the trees will be planted and about the project in general on our We Purple Earth page. Our team fundraising page will remain open for more donations with the understanding that One Tree Planted will decide where to plant any subsequent donations.
March was a month of change. Thousands of ARMY were affected by increased COVID-19 emergency measures. Like everyone else, we were scared for ourselves, for our families, for our neighbours, and for others in our communities and countries. But in the middle of the pandemic, ARMY came together to celebrate Yoongi's birthday and give back to people in need. The kindness of ARMY was never in doubt, but it can't be understated this month.
Thank you for carving out time to celebrate Yoongi's birthday with BTSxMidAtl, Key Changes, One Tree Planted, and the One In An ARMY crew. You are our 00:00.
